Encyclopaedias, Laws of New Zealand, Theses and Conference Papers
Reference works that update rather than being published once, and unpublished academic work.
These are the chapter 6 sources that do not fit the book pattern, either because they are updated continuously or because they were never published.
Encyclopaedias
An encyclopaedia is cited by its title rather than an author, then the edition and any reissue, the year, the volume and the topic (r 6.5).
Title (edition, reissue, year) vol volume Topic at [paragraph].
Laws of New Zealand
Laws of New Zealand has its own rule (r 6.6) because it updates differently from other encyclopaedias. There is no edition, no publisher and no year.
Give the title, the topic, and the reissue if there is one.
Theses and research papers
The title takes quotation marks, not italics, because the work is unpublished. The bracket carries the kind of degree, the university and the year (r 6.7.1).
Author “Title” (kind, University, year) at pinpoint.
Conference and seminar papers
A paper delivered at a conference is cited by the conference, its location and the date (r 6.7.2).
